A cookie is a small file that the BEN web server generates and sends to your browser; it is then stored on your hard drive. The small file contains information about your login, so that whenever you want to see a password-protected page, our web servers can look up the information stored in your cookie. This saves you the trouble of logging in every time you want to see a protected page.

Cookies generated by the BEN web server do not contain demographic information. The BEN web server does not attempt to read cookies written by other web servers.

To enable cookies, follow the directions for your browser:

• Mozilla 1 and higher:
  1. On the Edit menu, click Preferences.
  2. Double-click Privacy & Security.
  3. Click Cookies and select Enable All Cookies.
  4. Double-click Advanced and click Scripts & Windows (Mozilla 1.1/1.2) or Scripts & Plugins (Mozilla 1.3).
  5. Under Allow webpages to, select Create or change cookies and Read Cookies.
  6. Click OK.
• Internet Explorer 5 and higher:
  1. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Click Internet, then Custom Level.
  4. Scroll down to Cookies and choose Enable or Prompt.
• Netscape 7:
  1. On the Edit menu, click Preferences.
  2. Double-click Privacy & Security and click Cookies.
  3. Select Enable all cookies.
  4. Double-click Advanced and click Scripts & Windows.
  5. Under Allow webpages to, select Create or change cookies and Read cookies.
  6. Click OK.
• Netscape 6:
  1. On the Edit menu, click Preferences.
  2. Double-click Privacy & Security and click Cookies.
  3. Select Enable all cookies.
  4. Click OK.
• Netscape 4:
  1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
  2. Click Advanced.
  3. Click to select the box labeled Accept All Cookies.
  4. Click OK.
• Opera 6 and higher:
  1. On the File menu, click Preferences.
  2. Click Privacy.
  3. Under the Cookies heading, select Enable Cookies.
  4. Choose Automatically accept all cookies in the drop down box.
  5. Click OK.
