EB 2013 Trainee Symposium - Translational Research: From Bench to Bedside

In recent years there has been a research initiative promoting translational science. The National Institute of Health (NIH) has established a new center for translational sciences called the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCAT) with the ultimate goal of facilitating medical advances in the laboratory to clinical practices. With a growing number of researchers pursuing careers in translational research, we have organized a symposium outlining the career trajectories of several individuals who have chosen this path. The purpose of this yearÂ’s Trainee Advisory Committee symposium is to 1) define translational research, 2) discuss the opportunities available through NCAT, and 3) provide examples of laboratories that have been successful in establishing a translational research program.
