For 20 years, Kornberg and his group have doggedly tried to solve the riddle of the structure of Pol II, the eukaryotic multisubunit RNA polymerase that is a colossus among enzymes. As Joan and Ronald Conaway discuss in their Perspective, Kornberg's group have now achieved this goal, revealing to the world the 3.5 Å resolution x-ray crystal structure of yeast Pol II (Cramer et al.)
