CELL BIOLOGY: Moonlighting in Mitochondria

Molecules known as signal transducers and activators of transcription (STATs) regulate gene expression in the nucleus in response to cell surface receptors that are activated by cytokines. A cellular signaling pathway that responds to cytokines may coordinately control energy production by mitochondria.
